Plasma University was established in 2005 as an institute that offered academic preparatory courses. First, it was designed to provide improvements to the secondary school graduates who were weak in Science, English and Mathematics.

On May 15th, 2006 after one year - the institute developed to be the first higher education Institute of medical lab-Science that provide Associate Degree programs in medical laboratory technology program in Somalia.

On 2008, Plasma became a University specially, the College of Health Science and has improved new facilities and new programs including Associate Degrees in General Nursing, Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration and two completion programs of Bachelor of Sciences (Bachelor in Medical Lab-Technology BMLT and Bachelor in Nursing Science BSN) by responding the needs of our society for producing bright skilled young generations fulfilling all healthcare professions.

After that in 2009, College of Science & Technology emerges in Plasma University. Plasma University is a private non-governmental, non-profit and is open to all aspiring candidates who fulfill the admission requirements without discrimination based on sex, ethnic, origin, creed, color or religion.

Currently the university consists of two Colleges and Centre of Foundation Studies which offer bachelor degree, two years diploma and certificate programs: college of Health science and College of Science & Technology.

Each College creates its own academic programs within the general regulation of the university and enjoys considerable amount of freedom over its internal administration including recommendations for the selection of College members.
